This new release should give both users the peace of mind knowing they are in control of their assets, and developers can offer users similar experience as other Web3 ecosystems. After months of R&D and security testing on Earth Wallet v0.5, we are excited to share Earth Connect with the community 🚀.

🔒 Enhancing Application Security

Decentralized application development on the Internet Computer is similar to other smart contract blockchains like Ethereum, however new cryptographic libraries for signing transactions and querying data require building tools from scratch.

In our review, we found that the Internet Actor was a single JavaScript function being injected into applications giving developers full access to users wallets. If they were granted permission from malicious dApps and given rights by these particular apps then they could drain all assets in your wallet!

We wanted to make the Earth Connect API more in line with best practices, so we consulted with early Metamask developers to review our implementation. With our new approach your private key never leaves your wallet — it’s secured by custom libraries on our repository which enables granular access to canisters and functions, and ensures every action is first approved by you!

Also every Wednesday from 10pm-2pm ET there is an office hours session where developers can meet for more insight into developing their ideas or working together!
